I wanted to stop using alcohol perfumes. I love Shalimar, so I ordered it and it only has a very faints smell that is similar to Shalimar. :-( I should have ordered a sample instead of small bottle in a bundle of 4 little perfumes. Again, just like mitsouko, I don't like it. I will give it away. Samples from now on.

This is just okay to me. I smell some notes that are similar, but comparing them on either wrist they don't smeel the same.

I am sure that the perfume oil is awesome to people that like this smell, but I had never smelled it before I received my sample.....It started off kinda spicy and powdery first thing. Then it turned into what only can be described as 'Brute' on me. I am a thirty year old female who likes clean smells. This got a huge laugh out of all my co-workers and they all agreed I smell like an old man right now.

As a Shalimar addict and The Fragrance Shop loyal customer, I was intrigued at how could this oil version recreate the real Guerlain magic. But as every concentration of Shalimar has its own particular charm and beauty, it is no different here at The Fragrance Shop: by sniffing and first applying, it's all resins and balms, something quite deceiving, since there's no sign of the typical citruses and cedar accord of the opening. And then, 15 minutes later, when I'm almost led to think the oil just resembles some Shalimar base notes and nothing more, all of the citruses and the cedar swiftly emerge, note by note and creating a beautiful harmony that's definitely not tense as the alcohol versions', but just as Shalimar as only the real thing can be. Yes, this is Shalimar without the bug-spray accord and very light on incense and leather, although these are detectable enough not only to meld with one's skin the way only Shalimar can do, but also to linger there for a whole day and for even more time on clothes. Remarkably Shalimar! Thank you again, The Fragrance Shop: I'll forever treasure your Shalimar oil along with my vintage alcohol originals!

I use the vintage Shalimar (70-80) since I don't like at all the current version. This oil it "quite" similar to the vintage version. You have to be patient and wait that the initial notes, very soapy and old-ladish to my nose and not too pleasant, go away. What remains is very soft, warm and powdery. If only it were more "smoky" and with more vanilla, it would be really similar the vintage one, but also like that, it is very, very pleasant and much better of the appalling Shalimar they now sell in shops.
