Still fairly new to The Fragrance Shop, I had doubts in my mind as to whether they could REALLY do a vintage fragrance justice, especially since fragrance is so subjective, I can just imagine the difficulty in re-creating something discontinued, vintage, where the components of it are either way to expensive to obtain, restricted by new laws, or ethics.
So I tried a little experiment. I ordered an authentic, vintage sample decant of a fragrance I've loved since ages ago (that has been reformulated and cheapened since), and put it on my left wrist. On my right, I put some of their pure oil version. Right away, I could sense both had commonalities and yet had distinct differences. Was I just smelling too much alcohol on the left wrist, from the original? Was theirs on the right too concentrated as a pure oil or just off? I repeated this exercise, sniffing from one wrist to the other for over an hour...just to be sure, and I found more and more notes in common yet still some distinct differences. What the...I was on the verge of being a bit upset and disappointed that the replication was not like the original.
And then...the light went on. How many times had I clicked past the instructional videos on how to apply the oils? The same insert that is printed and included with EVERY perfume oil purchase? It's not a disclaimer, but actual instruction on how their oils work. Yes, they're concentrated. That's what you're paying for, remember? Quality. So, the instructions say to rub your wrists together after application, then rub on your neck or wherever you wish.
At this point, feeling just a little obtuse, I rubbed my right wrist onto my neck vigorously, since the other one was busy, gave it a minute, and then re-examined both wrists one at a time. Ta-da...pretty identical. And I'm a bit of a fragrance snob so when I say this truly brought me back to a place where this scent had me captivated some 20+ years ago, I'm not kidding. Plus, an hour later, the scent on my left wrist was fading while the right one was still as vibrant and delivering as promised.
I'd say the experiment was a tremendous success!

I had a custom fragrance made by Erne of Scottsboro Az 30 years ago. Unfortunately when he passed away the company dissolved and my custom scent was no longer available. The Fragrance Shop was able to closely duplicate the scent that I was known by for 30 years, and now I smell like me again.
